Volunteer Energy Cooperative is warning PayMyWay customers in Crossville and Spring City to be on the alert for phone scammers. VEC says the scam starts with a recorded phone call informing customers that VEC will disconnect their service immediately unless they stay on the line to pay. The phone number calling is a spoofed copy of one of VEC’s phone numbers.
VEC does send automated calls when customers are below $25.00 on their PayMyWay account. However, VEC says there is no demand for immediate payment or threat to disconnect. VEC says to avoid falling for this scam you should always call VEC and verify your account. Never give out your personal or banking information to someone who calls you.
