Both drivers were injured and traffic was snarled for hours after a car collided with a tractor-trailer Thursday morning on I-40 in Putnam County. It happened around 6:20am at the westbound 288/Highway 111 on-ramp. According to the THP, 20-year-old William Oliver of Livingston was attempting to merge his Toyota Corolla onto the Interstate when he struck the far right front of a tractor-trailer driven by 35-year-old Hector Salaz-Munoz, of Tijuana, Mexico who was also traveling west on I-40. Following the impact the Corolla spun counterclockwise, rolled over, and struck a guardrail. The tractor-trailer ran off the road and also rolled over. The overturned trailer and its cargo blocked all lanes of travel. Both drivers were transported to the Cookeville hospital with only minor injuries. Mr. Oliver was charged with Failure to Exercise Due Care.
