NWS Releases Preliminary Information On Thursday’s Tornado In Pleasant Hill

After receiving detailed survey information from the Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service has released preliminary information regarding yesterday’s tornado in Pleasant Hill which has been assigned an EF-0 rating.  The twister packed maximum winds of 85 mph.  Its 5.8 mile path began on Highway 70/Sparta Highway at Browntown Road where it damaged some trees.  The tornado then traveled to Main Street Pleasant Hill, where it damaged roofs, broke windows, tore off siding and toppled trees.  Pleasant Hill Elementary, the Fletcher House and the Community House sustained the most damage.  With a maximum width of 125 yards, the tornado held a close course along Bud Tanner Road and then crossed over 70 North where it dissipated before reaching I-40.  Officials reported only minor injuries and no students at Pleasant Hill were hurt in Thursday’s storm.
