Chief of Police Jessie W. Brooks, on behalf of the Crossville Police Department, is proud to publicly announce the awarding of the Medal of Valor to Officer Jacob Zimmerman for extraordinary bravery and outstanding public service.
On July 4, 2026, Officer Zimmerman demonstrated immense bravery and courage during a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle in question had been reported as a possible D.U.I. and was heading into town on Highway 70 West. At the time, Crossville was particularly crowded with pedestrians due to the Fourth of July celebrations and the 250th anniversary of America’s Independence.
Recognizing the immediate threat to the public, Officer Zimmerman heroically drove his vehicle into the path of the fleeing suspect’s car, colliding with it to end the pursuit and prevent potential harm to citizens.
As a result of the crash, Officer Zimmerman sustained a dislocated shoulder, which he promptly put back into place at the scene. Despite his injury, he rushed over to the suspect’s vehicle to assess her condition and provide aid, discovering that she was experiencing a serious diabetic emergency.
Officer Zimmerman’s actions truly went above and beyond the call of duty. The Crossville Police Department commends his heroic efforts, unwavering courage, and commitment to the safety of our community.
