The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has presented and Outstanding Service Award to Correctional Officer Hunter Kirkland for going above and beyond the call of duty. On the evening of April 17, 2026, while traveling home from work, Officer Kirkland encountered a woman who had been involved in a traumatic motorcycle crash. Without hesitation, he stopped to render aid and remained by her side during a dangerous and chaotic scene. Despite vehicles speeding past and several close calls that nearly resulted in him being struck, Officer Kirkland never left her side and continually reassured her that she was not alone. After spending several nights in the hospital, the victim is now home recovering. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office recognizes Correctional Officer Hunter Kirkland for his courage, compassion, professionalism, dedication and selfless service to our community.
