A bomb threat made against a Putnam County school has been declared a hoax. The call came into Cane Creek Elementary School around 9:20am Friday (May 16, 2026) and the School Resource Deputy was able to speak to the caller. Deputies immediately responded and began evacuating the school building while conducting a search of the campus with their explosive detection K9. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says Investigators are working with the FBI to investigate this threat. As of Friday, authorities had received 13 separate threats against schools across Tennessee, all of which were determined to be hoaxes.
