During a ceremony at the latest City Council meeting, Mayor RJ Crawford issued a formal proclamation to honor the community’s many decorated veterans and declared Crossville a Purple Heart City. Supported by the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayor Crawford highlighted the history of the Purple Heart, the nation’s oldest military decoration, dating back to seventeen-eighty-two. Crawford promised that the city will never forget the sacrifices of those wounded or killed in combat.
