Several laws take effect January 1st in Tennessee to modernize ID requirements for alcohol purchases, protect renters and improve healthcare benefits. Under SB 2129, grocery stores, but not bars or restaurants, may now use virtual identity verification for alcohol purchases.

House Bill 1814 will require landlords to provide tenants with the physical names and addresses of property owners or managers. They must also provide a direct email, phone number, or online portal for maintenance requests.

Senate Bill 1919 will require insurers to cover a full 12-month supply of prescription contraceptives at one time, rather than month-to-month.
