In a powerful celebration of culture and history, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) proudly announce that the new iconic Interstate 55 (I-55) bridge spanning the Mississippi River between Memphis, Tennessee, and West Memphis, Arkansas, will now be known as Kings’ Crossing.

This new name, officially adopted by the Tennessee General Assembly and the Arkansas Highway Commission, honors three transformative figures known as “Kings”: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; B.B. King; and “The King of Rock and Roll” Elvis Presley.

The I-55 Bridge, a vital link for national commerce, has served travelers for 75 years since its construction. It will be replaced with a larger structure designed to meet modern seismic codes, as it sits on the New Madrid fault line. The cost to build the new bridge is estimated to be between  $800 million to $1.5 billion.
