Beginning July 1, 2024 violating the conditions of a bond release will be a Class A misdemeanor in Tennessee. This change allows law enforcement to arrest an individual who is suspected of violating the conditions of their release instead of having to wait for the district attorney’s office to file a motion and schedule a court hearing which could take weeks.
Another new measure requires judges to prioritize the safety of communities when setting bail for defendants and removes the defendant’s financial consideration as a determining factor.
