The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth has released its County Profiles of Child Well-Being in Tennessee for 2023.
According to the report, 23.9 percent of Cumberland County’s children are living in poverty and 13.1 percent are food insecure. The child care cost burden is 22.6 percent. The severe housing cost burden, which is the percentage of households spending 50% or more of their income on housing, is 8.7 percent.
In Education, Cumberland County ranks 50th among Tennessee’s 95 counties for 3rd to 8th grade reading and math proficiency. Youth graduating high school on time is 91.7 percent.
Victims of abuse or neglect per 1,000 is 14 percent, down from the previous rate of 16 percent.
Overall, at 44th, Cumberland County is in the top half of Tennessee counties in child well-being.
