(The following is based on a Facebook post by Charlie D. Tollison Assistant Chief Sparta-White Rescue, TARS State VP. Special thanks to Dustin Burgess 1st Lieutenant Cumberland County Rescue Squad for submitting post and pictures.)

On Friday June 10th, 2022, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad was dispatched at 2:43pm to the Virgin Falls State Park area to assist a hiker who had become incapacitated due to injuries. Sparta-White County Rescue immediately requested mutual aid from Cumberland County Rescue Squad, who not only responded but brought along Cumberland County Fire Department and Cumberland County EMA. Complex rope systems were established across the gorge, with the patient being packaged into a stokes basket and transported across to an awaiting UTV. The patient was then  transported to the helicopter landing zone at approximately 6pm Friday. Charlie D. Tollison, Assistant Chief of the Sparta-White County Rescue Squad, extends a big thanks to all the Cumberland County agencies that responded and also to Tennessee State Parks, White County Sheriff’s Deputies, White County Ambulance Service, the helicopter service that flew to the scene and the members of the Sparta-White Rescue Squad.
