In a 16-0 vote, with two commissioners absent, the Cumberland County Commission voted to approve a private act creating the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority. Under the act, area water districts would have the option to keep things as they are now, or merge into the authority. Potential members could include Crossville and Catoosa Water Departments, as well as South Cumberland, Crab Orchard and West Cumberland. Proponents of the authority say the combined resources would make it easier to secure funding for future water sources.
