By Ronni Chase Nov 1, 2021 | 2:02 PM

The Department of Children’s Services  announced Monday that for the fourth consecutive federal fiscal year, the number of Tennessee children in foster care reaching permanency through adoption or subsidized permanent guardianship has increased, despite the challenges caused by the pandemic.  In the federal fiscal year 2021, a total of 1,630 children in foster care joined forever families. That figure represents an increase from 1,618 adoptions or subsidized permanent guardianship finalizations in the federal fiscal year 2020.  Monday’s announcement comes at the start of National Adoption Month, a special time commemorated annually to raise awareness about the need for adoptive families for children in foster care.
