The nun who went to prison for breaking into the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge to protest nuclear weapons has died. Megan Rice was 91. In 2012, while in her 80’s, Rice and two fellow Catholic peace activists cut through fences at Y-12 to hang banners, spray-paint peace slogans and hammer on a bunker storing bomb-grade uranium. They would each serve two years in federal prison. Her order, the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, reports Rice died of congestive heart failure on October 10, 2021.
