On Thursday, the Chief Medical Officer at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin took to social media to announce there were no available ICU beds in Middle Tennessee hospitals. Doctor Geoff Liffert posted that Tennessee has seen a 1000% increase in COVID-19 patients in the last 6 weeks. The Delta variant of the coronavirus has been called by some medical professionals as contagious as the chicken pox. According to WRKN, on Friday morning the Tennessee Department of Health reported there were 10% of hospital floor beds and 7% of ICU beds available for the entire state.
