Over 1,000 “Breakthrough” Cases Of COVID-19 In Tennessee, Delta Variant Widespread

The Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is widespread in Tennessee according to Lisa Piercey, Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Health.  There have been 1,000 “breakthrough” cases in the state, cases where fully vaccinated individuals have been infected, WTVC reports. Of these infections, 27 have died.   Since July 1, Tennessee has reported a more than 200% increase in overall COVID-19 cases.  On Friday, July 23, 2021 Cumberland County reported 62 active cases of COVID-19, 142 deaths and 6,970 total cases.
