Two hikers in Fall Creek Falls State Park were rescued by helicopter Monday after they became trapped by rising waters in Cane Creek Gorge. The Piney Volunteer Fire Department reports the hikers called 911 around 10:30 am. Park rangers made contact. Piney Fire was dispatched and contacted White County Rescue Squad, Cumberland County Rescue Squad, Putnam County Rescue Squad, and Chattanooga Hamilton County Cave & Cliff Team to assist. Tennessee Highway Patrol’s helicopter was requested to hoist the hikers out. The helicopter was determined to be the safest way to get the hikers extricated. The hikers were not injured and were able to go home.
