A 16-year-old girl was attacked by a bear around 12:20am Friday as she was sleeping in a hammock at a campsite in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The girl’s family was able to drive the bear off but not before she received multiple injuries. WVLT reports the girl remained conscious throughout the attack. Around 9am the Tennessee National Guard transported the teen to UT Medical Center where she is said to be in stable condition. Rangers shot and killed the bear that attacked the girl.
