The Crossville City Council, in special session on Tuesday, approved the second reading of the 2021-22 budget and tax rate in title only. Mayor James Mayberry proposed a fifteen-cent increase in property taxes, raising it to seventy-five cents. Mayor Mayberry cited several projects on the table, including a possible indoor recreation facility, as the need for the tax hike. The increase would generate approximately $660,000 and balance the proposed budget. Council will conduct a public hearing on the tax rate and budget prior to the third reading at the regular June meeting.
