A new roadway to access the recently announced retail development off Genesis Road is set to carry the name of former councilman and Mayor of Crossville, James S. Mayberry. City officials announced plans to designate the newly developed thoroughfare connecting toward Cook Road as “James S. Mayberry Avenue”. Staff explained that extending the “Interstate Drive” moniker was impractical due to existing property numbering conventions, which begin at Genesis Road and would have required widespread readdressing for established businesses. The naming serves as a tribute to Mayberry’s pivotal role in championing 2019 state commercial development district legislation, which enabled sales tax increment financing for the retail corridor.
