A Cumberland Cove property owner recently discovered that someone was trying to sell his property without his permission after being notified by his neighbor that a for sale sign had been placed on the land.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the victim said he contacted the real estate agency listed on the sign and was told that the transaction had been conducted by phone and email, but never in person.

The victim said he was also told that the seller even emailed the real estate agency photos of the driver licenses of the real property owner and his wife.

The scammer reportedly signed a contract to sell the property for $120,000.

No suspects were listed in the police report.
