Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Press Release:
At approximately 9:00 PM on July 23, 2026, Deputy Wallace responded to the area of Clarkrange Highway after PCSO Dispatchers received a report that three males were recklessly shooting firearms near Monterey City Lake. It was advised that the subjects had left the area in a Gray Dodge pickup truck with roof mounted lights.
Deputy Wallace located a vehicle matching the description driving on Clarkrange Highway. Deputy Wallace activated her emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. Rather than stopping, the driver of the Gray Dodge began to evade law enforcement. Deputy Wallace initiated a short pursuit before the driver pulled over on Walton Hills Rd.
The driver was then taken into custody without incident. During the investigation, the driver initially gave a false name but was identified to be Aaron Ashburn. A pistol was also located in the vehicle. Ashburn is a convicted felon which prohibits him from being in possession of a firearm.
Ashburn admitted to firing the firearm, where he got the firearm from, and why he evaded.
Aaron Ashburn was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Driving on Revoked, Criminal Impersonation, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. He has a bond set at $114,500 and a court date of July 29, 2026.
