The Rock Creek Campground in Morgan County will reopen for camping this Friday. It was closed after a train hauling ethanol derailed and caught fire. Contact with river water remains prohibited in the affected area nd Nemo Day Use Area will remained closed.. This includes swimming, wading, fishing, boating involving water contact, and any other recreational activity that involves contact with the water.
The National Park Service will continue to coordinate with TDEC, EPA, Morgan County Emergency Management, and incident command and will operate out of an abundance of caution until the water-contact order is lifted or modified. Visitors should follow all posted restrictions and avoid entering or using the river until further notice.
