Tennessee’s ban on Kratom (KRAY-tum), often pronounced KRAT-tum, goes into effect on July 1st. It’s described as a psychoactive preparation for muscle pain, depression, fatigue and various other medical conditions. It can also be addictive and has been dubbed “gas station heroine” because before the ban, it was sold at convenience stores and other businesses. The new law classifies Kratom as a controlled substance. Beginning in July, possession of Kratom will be a misdemeanor and manufacture, sell and delivery will be a felony.
