A semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries late Saturday night after crashing his big rig into an overpass support pillar in Putnam County. It happened around 11pm on I-40 near Exit 273. The Putnam County Fire Department said the truck’s fuel tank was compromised and leaking fuel into a nearby ditch. Firefighters immediately began containing and managing the leak while Putnam County EMA was contacted to assist with mitigation efforts. The Fire Department said no obvious damage was observed to the bridge; however, out of an abundance of caution, TDOT was requested to respond to the scene to inspect the structure.
