Crossville Police arrested a man and woman traveling in a black 2010 Chevy Cobalt reported stolen out of Kentucky. The driver, 32-year-old Wesley Russell Smoot, of Bedford, Virginia claimed he had obtained a ride from the female to get back home to Virginia. The female, 37-year-old Chassity Mechelle Thomas, claimed the vehicle belonged to a man who was in jail and he had told her she could keep the car until he got out. A search of the car yielded a small amount of marijuana in the driver door. Central Dispatch advised that Mr. Smoot possessed a revoked drivers license. Both subjects were transported to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for booking. Mr. Smoot was charged with Driving while Revoked and Ms. Thomas was charged with theft of property. The 2 dogs that were in the vehicle were taken to the Cumberland County Animal Shelter.
