The White County Sheriff’s Office says scammers are making calls that appear to originate from the Justice Center’s number (931-836-2700), but the caller ID may display “White County Ambulance.”
During these calls, the scammer claims to be an Officer and that you have missed a court date and there is an active warrant for your arrest. They are reportedly very persistent and will insist on meeting you at the Sheriff’s Department or Justice Center to “resolve” the warrant by paying a fee. They will then instruct you to purchase a gift card or go to a Bitcoin ATM and transfer the cash to them or other payment card to cover these alleged fees.
This is a scam. If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal or financial information to these callers.
