The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the Preliminary Report for last Tuesday night’s (10/8/2024) crash on Sparta Highway near the intersection of Old Ridge Road, between Pleasant Hill and DeRossett.

According to the THP, a 77-year-old Tennessee woman, driving a 2008 Mazda MZ6, entered US 70 from Old Ridge Road when the Mazda crossed over into the east bound travel lane while traveling west. The driver over corrected and at some point, in an attempt to get back in her correct lane, the vehicle was nearly sideways in the road.

A 2022 Peterbilt hauling a trailer was traveling eastbound, and in an attempt to avoid a collision, veered into the west bound lane.  The front of the semi-truck struck the Mazda in the driver’s side.

Both the Mazda driver and her 53-year old female passenger were hurt. The THP did not list the extent of their injuries but did say the women were not wearing seat belts.

The 27-year-old male truck driver from Georgia was not injured.

The THP said no charges are pending.
