Nashville’s own Josef Newgarden, who won the 500 last year, started 3rd in Sunday’s running. Josef led 26 laps which was the second most of the race behind his Team Penske teammate Scott McCloughlin who led 63.

This is Newgarden’s 1st win of the IndyCar season, Josef had won the season opener back in March but was disqualified a couple of months later after a cheating scandal. Newgarden who won last years Indianapolis 500 is the first driver to win back-to-back 500’s since Helio Castroneves did it back in 2000-01. Josef will hope to start a winning streak as his next race which will be the Detroit Grand Prix on June 2nd. Newgarden will be racing in his hometown in the Volunteer State for IndyCar’s season finale on September 15th for the Music City Grand Prix.
