Last week the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department announced it was the first county in Tennessee to become part of the Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist (ROS) “Leave Behind Program”. This week the Algood Police Department has announced it has also joined and is the first agency in Putnam County to issue these overdose reversal kits. The kits are meant to be “left behind” by officers in areas they think are at-risk for overdose, such as the home of someone who struggles with a drug problem or for caregivers of someone on prescription medication. The drug reversal kits can then be used by witnesses to an overdose to start the recovery process before first responders and EMS arrive. In announcing the added program, Algood Police Chief Dale Armour said, “Drug use is prevalent in our society and before it can be beaten, we need to help as many as we can to allow them to seek treatment”. If you or someone you love is in need of assistance please contact ROPS at 615-588-1622 or contact the TN REDLINE 1-800-889-9789.
