#24 Tennessee Earns Another SEC Weekend Sweep over Mississippi State

It was another homestand SEC series this past weekend in Knoxville as #24 Tennessee hosts Mississippi State. The Volunteers used momentum from last weeks sweep over rival and highly ranked Vanderbilt to once again get a series sweep over the Bulldogs.

For the second time in the span of six days, it was the bat of Griffin Merritt that gave Tennessee a dramatic walk-off win as the graduate transfer led of the bottom of the ninth with a no-doubt solo home run to straightaway center field, lifting the Volunteers to an 8-7 victory over Mississippi State on a damp Thursday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

#24 Tennessee continued its winning ways with a come-from-behind victory over Mississippi State to secure its second straight series, notching a 12-8 win on Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. After the Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-2 lead, it was all Volunteers the rest of the way as the Big Orange scored 10 runs over the next three innings to turn a five-run deficit into a four-run lead after seven innings.

#24 Tennessee struck for six runs in the first inning and never let up, cruising to a 13-2 run-rule victory to complete the series sweep over Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Volunteers plated runs in each of the first four innings en route to scoring double-digit runs for the fifth time in the last six games. During its current seven game win streak, UT is outscoring its opponents 83-27 and averaging 11.9  runs per game.

Tennessee (30-14, 11-10 SEC) will wrap up its nine-game homestand on Tuesday evening against Wofford at 6:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+ through the ESPN app
