County Mayor Allen Foster and Crossville James Mayberry have proclaimed April 2022 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Crossville and Cumberland County.  According to the proclamation, “in 2021 the Cumberland County Police Departments received a total of 78 reports of sexual violence, and the Avalon Center served the needs of victims during 275 crisis interventions, 66 peer counseling sessions, and 13 forensic exams, law enforcement interviews, or other proceedings…..—statistics indicate that one in five women will have experienced sexual assault by the time they complete college or are of college age”. Both mayors call upon citizens to join anti-sexual assault advocates and support service programs in the belief that all community members must be part of the solution to end sexual violence.
