Elks Lodge 2751 in Crossville is hosting a spaghetti dinner on February 26, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm to honor WWII Army Veteran Staff Sergeant Alfred Rodgers. In addition to recognizing his distinguished military and civilian career, the event is also a birthday celebration for Staff Sergeant Rodgers who will turn 100-years-old on March 5, 2022. The goal is to get 100 birthday cards. All Veterans and civilians are invited to attend this event.
SSgt Rodgers was drafted into the Army in December 1942, age 20. SSgt Rodgers served in Australia, New Guinea, and the South Pacific during WWII. His unit was a Anti Aircraft Unit. He took part in Hollandia Mopping Up operations. He was a crew member operating 40 MM Bofers Automatic Cannon. He survived 55 Air Attacks. He has been interviewed for the Library Of Congress Veterans Oral History.
After the war he returned home and started college and became a Surgeon. He practiced for 40 years. He married, had 3 children. His wife, daughter and son have passed. His daughter Betsy is still living. He is the last of his generation. He still very active and travels in his RV.
