One person died shortly before noon Thursday in a multiple vehicle crash on I-40 in Cumberland County. Under advisement from the District Attorney, authorities are not releasing any names at this time and the crash is still under investigation. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash involved two vehicles traveling east on I-40 at the 322 Mile Marker and one tractor trailer traveling west bound. The vehicles made contact causing one of the vehicles to travel across the median into west bound traffic striking the tractor trailer. The vehicle that struck the tractor trailer ended up in median and the tractor trailer came to final rest in the left lane of I-40 west bound. The other vehicle that was involved traveled to the next exit before stopping. The driver of the vehicle that struck the tractor trailer was deceased on the scene. As of 4pm Thursday, all lanes of I-40 east & west bound had reopened but traffic remained slow in the area.
