Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has appointed Lisa Helton as interim commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Correction, effective Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Helton, who has over 25 years of experience across the criminal justice field, will serve until a permanent commissioner is named. She replaces Tony Parker who is retiring after nearly four decades with the department. Parker will begin his new job on January 1, 2022 as president of the 4th Purpose Foundation, a Knoxville-based criminal justice reform organization.
