Putnam County K-9 Unit Apprehends Property Theft Suspect

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reports that on the morning of Monday, August 16th, 2021, K-9 Maggie, Sergeant  Matt Scott, Deputy Gary Davis, PCSO deputies and Baxter Police successfully apprehended a suspect believed to be involved with recent agricultural property related thefts in Putnam County. The suspect stole a side-by-side vehicle from an address on White Cemetery Road Monday morning and evaded deputies who were in pursuit. Later, Deputy Davis spotted a flatbed truck with a side by side loaded up in the bed which matched the description of the stolen side by side. When a traffic stop was attempted, the subject again evaded.

Sergeant Scott and K-9 Maggie were dispatched to track and locate the suspect. K-9 Maggie arrived on scene and began tracking which led deputies directly to the suspect at an address on JL McBroom Road and Old Gainesboro Road area off Highway 56. The truck the suspect was driving was discovered to be stolen out of DeKalb County near Silver Point. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.  The suspect’s name was not immediately released.

Residents and property owners in the Bloomington Springs area are asked to check outbuildings and sheds for any missing items. The subject is believed to have been involved with several agricultural thefts in that area. If anyone in the area has seen any suspicious activity in the last 24 hours possibly related to this situation, please contact the Sheriff’s Office. This investigation is ongoing.
