Gov. Lee Signs Executive Order Giving Parents Ability to Opt Out of School Mask Mandates

On Monday, August 16, 2021, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed Executive Order 84 to give parents the ability to opt their child out of a local mask mandate enacted by a school or health board.  As a result, Governor Lee said he will not be calling a special session at this time regarding the mask issue.  Governor Lee acknowledged that Tennessee is facing a significant challenge in hospitals as a result of the increase in COVID cases but said the government will not mandate anyone get a vaccine. However, Lee does encouraged Tennesseans to consider getting vaccinated.
