The Crossville Fire Department enlisted the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad after a resident of Vaughn Street reported finding a device resembling a bazooka shell Tuesday evening in a storage shed. The explosive experts determined the device was a live round and transported it to an area off Bradshaw Lane in Westel, where it was detonated around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning (6/9/21). Earlier in the evening, a county-wide alert had inadvertently been issued in regard to a possible need to evacuate, however that was intended, instead, for a small area of Vaughn Street.
