The Crossville City Council approved the third reading of the 2021-22 budget and tax rate during their monthly meeting Tuesday. Several residents appeared during the public hearing to speak out against the tax hike with most saying it would be detrimental to commercial properties and those on fixed incomes. Mayor Mayberry noted there are programs available to assist or freeze property taxes for those with fixed incomes, as well as the need for additional revenue due to increases in materials for paving and operating costs. Council unanimously approved a .15 cent increase, raising the rate to .75 cents per $100 of assessed value.
