A Crossville man was killed in a two vehicle accident on I-40 Monday afternoon. It happened just before 4pm at the 302 eastbound mile marker in Putnam County near the Cumberland County line. The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the deceased as 39-year-old Cipriano Mendez. According to reports Mendez was driving east in a 2007 Honda Fit when 27-year-old Jeffery Skudlark II, of McCrory, Arkansas attempted to pass at a high rate of speed. Skudlark’s 2018 Dodge Journey struck the Honda, killing Mendez. Skudlark, who was not injured, was charged with Vehicular Homicide, DUI, Implied Consent, Simple Possession, Drug Paraphernalia, Exercise of Due Care, and Open Container.
