The United States Justice Department announced Tuesday that it has reached a settlement with Cumberland County to resolve allegations that the County discriminated against ten female employees because of their sex. Under the terms of the settlement, which still must be approved by the court, Cumberland County will pay approximately $1.1 million in compensatory damages to ten women. The Justice Department alleged the women were sexually harassed by the former director of the County’s Solid Waste Department, Mike Harville. Cumberland County will also revise its policies, procedures, and training to better prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
