A little girl has died in McNairy County after she fell through the ice on a pond. It happened Sunday (2/23/21). Officials say the 6-year-old girl was playing in the snow with other children when the ice gave way and she ended up in the water. The other children were not hurt. The girl’s death comes a week after a 10-year-old boy in Shelby County died while trying to save his sister who had fallen through the ice at a pond near their home. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reports that twelve people have died statewide due to last week’s extreme winter weather. Four deaths occurred in Shelby County, two deaths in Sumner County, while Dickson, Maury, Overton, Williamson, Lawrence, and McNairy counties each reported one death.
