VEC Crews Battle Ice, Downed Trees And Brutal Temps

By Ronni Chase Feb 16, 2021 | 9:29 PM

With another winter storm expected to dump more ice and snow in our area Wednesday evening to Thursday night, Volunteer Energy Cooperative crews continued working overnight to restore power to as many customers as possible.   Most of the outages were in Fentress and Pickett counties.  VEC said the severity of the ice damage to trees has been making repairs incredibly difficult. Often crews finish repairs only to have another tree limb fall from the weight of the ice and break the line again.  VEC asks customers to not report outages on social media because it is not linked to the outage management system. Also, do not call 911 for information on power outages. Please use the SmartHub app or call the local service center.  And remember, stay away from downed power lines and never assume a downed power line is not live.
