In Putnam County, over 10,000 customers were without electricity Tuesday night. As crews worked to remove fallen trees more continued to fall on power lines and roadways. Upper Cumberland Electric advised customers to plan for an extended power outage. With another winter storm expected to move in to our region Wednesday evening, Cookeville City Mayor Ricky Shelton and Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter urged citizens without power to make plans to stay with friends and relatives who have electricity. In Cookeville two shelters were opened with plans to open more should they be needed in the coming days. Mayor Shelton and Mayor Porter also urged people to check on elderly family members and neighbors without power. All Putnam County offices will be closed on Wednesday, February 17 and Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville has canceled all classes Wednesday and Tech offices are closed. Mayor Porter also reminded citizens to not call 911 about power outages.
