No injuries were reported Sunday afternoon when a car crashed into a mechanic shop on Layken Lane and struck a gas meter line. According to the Crossville Chronicle, 28-year-old Mathew Taylor Deboever told police he was on Dooley Street when he thought something was wrong with his 2019 Ford Mustang. He said he lost control of the car when he sped up, crossing a lane of traffic and crashed into the front corner of the Crossville Auto Shop. An employee was working at the other end of the shop and was not hurt. The Crossville Chronicle reports that firefighters arrived to find natural gas spewing from the broken line. Firefighters pulled the electric meter and Volunteer Energy Cooperative was dispatched to complete the service disconnect. Middle Tennessee Natural Gas also responded to the site. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours, leaving around 6:30 Sunday night. No word on what if any charges may be filed.
