Trial date set for man accused of killing Knoxville cheerleader

A trial date has been set for the man accused of killing a Knoxville cheerleader. William Riley Gaul appeared in court Wednesday. His trial date on charges related to the death of 16-year-old Emma Walker was set for April 30. It had initially been scheduled for December 4. Investigators said that on November 21, 2016, Gaul fired a gun into his ex-girlfriend's bedroom while she was asleep, fatally shooting the Central High School cheerleader.


Sequatchie County Woman Charged With Fatally Stabbing Husband

A Sequatchie County woman on probation for stabbing her husband earlier this year is now charged with his murder. Police say on Tuesday night Jerri Sanders fatally stabbed 61-year-old John Wayne Sanders in the stomach with a steak knife. The incident occurred at the couple's home just north of Dunlap. WRCB reports the couple had been married about 5 years. Jerri Sanders is being held without bond in the Sequatchie County Jail.


CCHS and SMHS Girls Soccer Teams will meet again in the TSSAA Substate

The Cumberland County Lady Jets and Stone Memorial Lady Panthers will meet this Thursday at SMHS and play in the TSSAA Regional Finals. The Lady Jets defeated Scott County 2-1 while District 6-AA Champs Stone Memorial beat Loudon 3-1. This will be the fourth meeting between CCHS and SMHS this year and the second time in less than a week. The Lady Panthers have won all three previous games.

Crossville man was indicted in connection to the death of Crossville Police Department

Crossville man was indicted in connection to the death of Crossville Police Department's K-9 Cain

Dustin Lee Dixon, 28, Crossville was charged with killing of a service animal, theft over $10,000, aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, DUI, and violation of implied consent. On August 2, the Crossville Police Department was in pursuit of a stolen 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck at near Highway 68 and Highway 127 South when police say Dixon swerved into a deputy's cruiser. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office joined the Crossville Police Department in pursuit of Dixon down a road off of Genesis Road where Dixon reportedly crashed the vehicle and started running from the scene. Officers and deputies along with K-9 officer Cain continued to pursue after him. Investigators said K-9 officer Cain returned from the wooded area with multiple stab wounds and later died from his injuries.


Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Training Class

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office will be partnering with Bethlehem Baptist Church for an active shooter response training class on Monday, November 13, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located at 626 Potato Farm Road. This class is to provide citizen response training in the event of an active shooter.. The training will give citizens some background on active shooter events and the lessons learned over the last twenty years. It also has some survivor testimonies and actual audio from Columbine High School. The class will last about two hours. It is informal and participants can ask questions as the material is covered.
